ARCHIVED - Incident in Torre Pacheco being treated as possible terrorist attack
National Police are investigating the car crash which left two dead and two more injured on a restaurant terrace in Torre Pacheco, Murcia
Last week’s tragic incident, which involved a car crashing into a restaurant terrace in Torre Pacheco, is now being treated as a possible terrorist attack, as the driver of the vehicle has been linked to a letter written to Allah and another letter with a violent theme.
One victim was left dead and two others were injured as a car crashed into the seating area and the Moroccan driver also died, although it is not clear whether he died from the impact or from a previously sustained knife wound.
The National authorities have since taken over the investigation and several different hypotheses are being considered, including the driver being affected by mental illness or having links to jihadist terrorism.
Although the initial hypothesis was that the driver had lost control of his vehicle due to his knife wound and crashed into the terrace accidentally, police now believe that the driver’s actions were deliberate after finding several letters written by the suspect, which could have links to extremism.
The authorities are also investigating whether the driver’s knife wound was self-inflicted or if he was attacked by another person.
