How to bag a 90-euro shopping voucher in the Valencia Region
The Valencian Government has launched its 'Bono Cesta de la Compra' (Shopping Basket Voucher) campaign for low-income families
The cost of the average weekly shop has skyrocketed in the last 12 months and, despite the Spanish Government cutting VAT on basic food essentials in January, households are paying 16.6% more for groceries than last year, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE).
To try to cushion the impact of soaring costs on low-income households, the Valencia Government is offering 90-euro shopping vouchers to the most vulnerable families with the launch of its annual 'Bono Cesta de la Compra' campaign on Tuesday April 18.
How does the voucher scheme work?
A whopping 48 million euros have been allocated specifically for this aid, which is open to households with an income of less than 21,000 euros and is provided in the form of a prepaid card.
The card can be used in any food establishment in the Valencia Region, including supermarket and hypermarket chains, as well as small specialised shops, and it's estimated 500,000 low-income households will benefit.
Establishments do not have to do anything to join the campaign.
Who is eligible?
Applicants must be registered in the Valencia Region and, as mentioned, the combined income must be below 21,000 per year.
The aid is compatible with the 200 euro cost of living subsidy from the Spanish Government and other subsidy's, such as the Minimum Vital Income.
How to apply?
Applications can be made now via the 'Bono' website and the card must be used between April 20 and July 14, 2023.
Through the webpage, applicants can request an appointment to apply for the aid and fill out an online form. The Administration will review the applications and documentation and, if they meet the requirements, a text message or email will be sent with details of where to collect the prepaid card.
A dedicated helpline has been set up on +34 960 990 107 from April 20 to answer any questions.
