ARCHIVED - Hospital visits in Murcia suspended due to rising Covid figures
Patients attending hospitals in the Region of Murcia can only be accompanied by another person if it is deemed completely necessary by health professionals
The Murcian Health Service (SMS) announced on Thursday, July 22 that it has decided to once again suspend visits and restrict accompaniments to patients to hospitals in the Region, given the significant increase in Covid cases in recent weeks, which has put a huge amount of pressure on the hospitals.
The managing director of the SMS, Francisco José Ponce, said that the reason for the restrictions is to limit the number of infections caused by visitors bringing the virus into Murcia’s hospitals.
A total of 589 new infections were recorded on Wednesday, up from 118 the previous day, and this naturally has a knock-on effect on the health services. The latest data shows that currently there are 82 people hospitalised in the Region for Covid, 12 of those being in the ICU, a number which has been rising steadily on a daily basis.
Patients coming to hospital will only be allowed to be accompanied by a companion when the health care staff deem it absolutely essential, and the accompanying person must have no Covid symptoms or have been in contact with someone who tested positive. In addition, the SMS recommends that companions always be from the same family unit where possible, and they will be restricted to the patient’s room.
General visiting of patients has been suspended, as was the case during the earlier waves of the pandemic.
