ARCHIVED - Hospital admissions plunge by a quarter in a week: Valencia Covid update February 28
Covid indicators continue to improve across Alicante province and the rest of the region
In just seven days, the number of seriously ill Covid patients in hospitals across the Valencia region has plunged by more than a quarter.
According to the latest data from the Valencia Region's Ministry of Health, there are currently 812 patients admitted to hospital with Covid, down from 1,117 on Monday February 21.
Last week, the region reported the lowest number of weekend cases since early December, a positive trajectory which continues as we move into March with almost 2,000 less infections reported since Friday.
Coronavirus cases
The regional Ministry of Health has reported 3,744 new Covid cases in the last 72 hours, down significantly from the 5,948 cases a week ago (also over three days). This brings the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,293,980 people.
By province: 291 have been recorded in Castellón (156,240 in total), 1,274 in Alicante (452,237), 2,179 in Valencia (685,500). The number of unassigned cases has been reduced to three after one case was assigned to Valencia.
According to the health data, there are currently 30,743 active cases (down from 35,329 on Friday), which represent 2.36% of the total positives.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 812 people admitted to hospital with Covid, 53 fewer than on Friday, and 305 less than last Monday, 90 of them in ICU (six less in 72 hours): 111 in the province of Castellón, 10 in the ICU; 265 in the province of Alicante, 31 of them in the ICU; and 436 in the province of Valencia, 49 in the ICU.
8,324 people have overcome the virus since the last update, which means the total number of recoveries since the start of the pandemic now stands at 1,265,655.
By provinces, the recoveries are distributed as follows: 153,497 in Castellón, 442,454 in Alicante and 669,646 in Valencia. The number of unassigned cases remains at 58.
Fatalities
Six Covid-related deaths have been reported over the weekend, eight less than were reported on Friday. All of the deaths occurred in February, and bring the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis in the Valencia region to 9,023: 1,042 in the province of Castellón, 3,441 in Alicante and 4,540 in Valencia.
The deceased are four women aged between 85 and 95, and two men between 83 and 100-years-old.
