ARCHIVED - Heatwave sees highs of 36 degrees as April draws to a close: Alicante weather April 24-27
Temperatures will heat up as the week progresses in Alicante province with unseasonable highs across the board
In what meteorologists are dubbing "exceptional" circumstances, the mercury looks set to continue to climb this week in Alicante province, particularly in the Vega Baja region where highs of 36ºC are likely.
Alicante has not escaped the ravages of the drought across Spain. Although it has the reserves accumulated in the reservoirs from last year's rains, the province has already recorded the driest two-month period in its history
According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) so far "64 days have passed without significant rainfall (more than 2.5 litres per m2)".
And there are no signs of any notable rainfall on the horizon with hot and dry conditions ahead as we move towards the weekend and the end of April.
Monday April 24 will get off to a fairly cloudy or clear start with both nighttime and daytime temperatures steadily rising. A light variable wind will tend towards east and southeasterly from midday and feel just slightly more intense.
Alcoy: 12ºC to 27ºC
Alicante: 15ºC to 24ºC
Denia: 14ºC to 24ºC
Elche: 13ºC to 26ºC
Orihuela: 14ºC to 27ºC
Intervals of light cloud will mark Tuesday April 25 as the mercury continues on its upward trajectory, most notably in the south of the province, accompanied by a light variable wind with sea breezes on the coast.
Alcoy: 15ºC to 32ºC
Alicante: 15ºC to 25ºC
Denia: 13ºC to 28ºC
Elche: 13ºC to 31ºC
Orihuela: 14ºC to 26ºC
Cloud will prevail until at least mid-afternoon on Wednesday April 26, more abundant in coastal areas. Temperatures will remain in the high 20s for the most part, even low 30s in the Vega Baja, and a light variable wind will tend towards easterly from midday onwards.
Alcoy: 15ºC to 30ºC
Alicante: 16ºC to 26ºC
Denia: 14ºC to 24ºC
Elche: 15ºC to 29ºC
Orihuela: 15ºC to 32ºC
Intervals of high cloud in general and morning low cloud in coastal areas are forecast on Thursday April 27. While thermometers will creep up in some parts of the province, particularly inland, it will fall very slightly during the day in others, although it will heat up at night. Again, there will be a light variable wind with sea breezes on the coast.
Alcoy: 16ºC to 32ºC
Alicante: 16ºC to 25ºC
Denia: 14ºC to 25ºC
Elche: 14ºC to 28ºC
Orihuela: 14ºC to 31ºC
