Heat ramps up in Murcia: Weekend weather forecast August 7-10
Dozens of municipalities in the Region of Murcia are on alert for temperatures approaching 40ºC

Weather alerts in the Region of Murcia this Thursday
The heatwave sweeping through Spain and much of southern Europe since last Sunday hit the Region of Murcia early this week with brilliant sun and scorching temperatures. Now, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has warned that the stifling heat will not only continue but will actually intensify over the coming days.
Thursday August 7

The hottest day of the week will undoubtedly be this Thursday, when Aemet has activated a yellow heat alert from noon until 9pm.
The yellow warning will be in effect in three major areas: the Altiplano, the Vega del Segura and Guadalentín Valley, Lorca and Águilas, covering some 33 municipalities in the Region. Only Cartagena, Mazarrón, the Northwest and the Mar Menor municipalities will be exempt, where temperatures will not exceed 35ºC.
Around a dozen towns can expect temperatures approaching 40ºC on Thursday, including Abarán, Alcantarilla, Alguazas, Alhama de Murcia, Blanca, Ceutí, Cieza, Librilla, Lorquí, Molina de Segura, Murcia and Las Torres de Cotillas.
Friday August 8

Temperatures will drop a little on Friday, especially inland, although the maximums will remain in the high 30s along the coast. The day will also be partly cloudy throughout which should offer some relief.
There is a slight chance of some isolated thunderstorms in the northwestern mountain ranges during the afternoon.
Saturday August 9

Saturday will be another pleasant day with some light cloud cover and the temperatures should remain steady. Light to moderate easterly winds will blow along the coast.
Sunday August 10

Sunday will be brilliantly sunny throughout the Region. Daytime temperatures will hover between 33ºC in Cartagena and 37ºC in Murcia.
Minimum and maximum temperatures in Murcia this weekend
