ARCHIVED - Guided tours of Guardamar Castle and Archaeological Museum in English
English-speakers can participate in the tours every Thursday in Guardamar, located in the Vega Baja comarca of Alicante
The Town Hall of Guardamar del Segura has organized combined guided tours of the Archaological Museum (MAG) and the Castillo de Guardamar for English-speakers.
The tours will take place every Thursday until September 30, allowing residents and tourists who don’t speak Spanish to learn about the rich history of Guardamar.
The museum is home to a selection of cultural and historical artefacts from different time periods, including the Bronze Age, the Phoenician colonization and the Roman colonization.
Guardamar Castle, build in the 13th century, is also a popular tourist attraction and has been named as an Item of Cultural Interest (BIC).
Tickets cost three euros per person and can be purchased on the Town Hall’s website.
The municipality of Calpe, in the Marina Alta, is also offering tours in English this summer.
The museum of Guardamar
The location of Guardamar at the mouth of the River Segura has attracted settlers for at least the last 6,000 years, and a wealth of archaeological discoveries reflects the different cultures and civilizations which were dominant in the area in the past.
Many of the items found are on display in the Museo Arqueológico de Guardamar (MAG), which is housed within the Casa de Cultura. The permanent exhibition is relatively small – certainly no more than an hour will be needed by most visitors - but very interesting, with a series of rooms taking the visitor from prehistoric times up to the modern era by means of well-presented exhibits with informative texts (in English, for those who speak neither Spanish nor Valenciano!).
