Granada's Sierra Nevada ski season will open on this date in November
The Sierra Nevada is one of the highest points in the south of Spain, and a draw for skiers and snowboarders every winter
The management of Sierra Nevada, Europe's southernmost ski resort in the Andalusian province of Granada, has announced that the 2024-25 ski season is tentatively scheduled to begin on Saturday November 30, just in time for the December holidays.
However, as is the case every year, the final opening date will depend on the weather conditions closer to the time.
Skiers are encouraged to take advantage of the advance discounts on lift tickets, which are available until October 16. The resort, run by the public company Cetursa, is offering special promotions this year as part of its 60th-anniversary celebrations. For a limited period, season tickets were discounted by 30%, with a 20% discount available up until mid-October.
The first snowfall of the season was expected to arrive during the second weekend of October, driven by the effects of Storm Kirk. Spain's meteorological agency, Aemet, has forecast that the snow level would gradually drop from 3,200 metres to 2,400 metres above sea level.
Should these predictions materialise, it could ensure sufficient snow coverage for the resort to open as planned at the end of November.
Sierra Nevada remains one of Spain's most popular ski destinations, drawing in both national and international visitors. The resort offers a wide range of slopes for skiers of all levels, from beginners to advanced, alongside a variety of activities for visitors to enjoy throughout the season.
