Granada pensioner faces court after allegedly shooting neighbour’s cat
An 89-year-old man is under investigation after a pet cat returned home with pellet wounds, including one to the eye

The incident came to light when the cat returned home with a bloodied face. Concerned, the owner took the animal straight to the vet, where X-rays revealed three small lead pellets lodged inside its body. One of them was dangerously close to the brain and had caused damage to the left eye.
Following the vet’s report, the cat’s owner filed a complaint with the local Guardia Civil. She provided medical evidence as well as information that helped officers begin an investigation into where the shots may have come from.
The Guardia Civil carried out a visual inspection of the area and were soon able to identify the suspected location of the shooting, which turned out to be a nearby home. Further checks confirmed that the resident, a man aged 89, owned an air rifle. Officers seized the weapon, a 4.5 millimetre calibre air gun, which matched the size of the pellets recovered from the cat.
The man has now been brought before the courts to face charges relating to animal abuse.
No details have been shared about the outcome of the court appearance, and it is not yet known whether further action will be taken. The Guardia Civil have not issued a public statement about the case.
