Gas Appliances: Timely advice from TJ Electricals that could save your life
As the thermometers start registering winter is well and truly on the way, here is some timely advice from TJ Electricals
With nights drawing in and starting to get chillier, trusty gas heaters are being revived from their summer hibernation, but a few simple checks could save some unexpected problems which could have serious consequences. Here is some advice from TJ Electricals, Camposol after a customer visited their store with a problematic gas heater:
“The weather is now changing and the temperature has dipped which means people are beginning to use their heating equipment. If you have a gas fire in storage, please check the hose is not past its expiry date. A customer brought a gas fire in today for us to look at as it wasn’t lighting and the hose on it expired in February 2010 (which means it was manufactured in 2005, making it nearly 19 years old!!!!). The regulator was also very old. For the sake of around €12, please replace your hose and regulator as soon as it has expired. We would also like to suggest you invest in a decent Carbon Monoxide detector and make sure you have plenty of ventilation when using a gas appliance.”
This advice also applies to other gas appliances, water boilers, ovens, hobs etc. To check the expiry date of the hose, look for the “Fecha de Caducidad” on the hose itself. If it is out of date (as is the case of the one in the image) it is advisable to replace it.
