Fuel prices in Spain drop just in time for the holidays
Diesel has fallen to €1.421 per litre and petrol has reached €1.470 in pumps across Spain

Fuel prices have continued their downward slide this week, dropping by as much as 1.11% and maintaining the decline that began a fortnight ago on the eve of the Christmas holidays.
The average price of a litre of diesel has settled at €1.421 after falling again over the past week, according to data from the EU Oil Bulletin. Petrol has seen a more modest decrease of 0.54% compared to last week, bringing the average price down to €1.470 per litre.
These reductions mean that so far in 2025, petrol has fallen 3% compared to the end of the previous year, while diesel is 0.76% cheaper than the price at which it finished 2024.
For drivers filling up their tanks, the savings are becoming noticeable. An average 55-litre diesel tank now costs around €78.15, approximately 55 cents less than at the same time last year when it stood at around €78.70. Petrol car owners filling an average 55-litre tank will pay around €80.85, which is €2.42 less than a year ago when it exceeded €83.27.
The average price of diesel remains below the levels seen before Russia's invasion of Ukraine on in February 2022, when it stood at €1.479 per litre. Petrol also sits below the €1.591 per litre it commanded at that time.
Both fuels remain far from the peaks recorded during the summer of 2022. In July of that year, petrol reached €2.141 per litre while diesel hit €2.10, representing the highest prices Spanish drivers had ever faced at the pumps.
Diesel has now been cheaper than petrol for 146 consecutive weeks.
Today, the price of 95 unleaded petrol in Spain remains below both the European Union average of €1.611 per litre and the eurozone average of €1.661 per litre.
Diesel prices in Spain are also lower than the EU average of €1.549 per litre and the eurozone average of €1.572 per litre, making Spanish fuel amongst the more affordable in Western Europe.
