Frenchman arrested for a string of burglaries near Benidorm
The thieves used a squatted house in Callosa d’en Sarrià, Alicante to store their stolen goods

Guardia Civil in the Alicante town of Callosa d’en Sarrià have arrested a 25-year-old Frenchman and a 32-year-old Spanish woman who were responsible for a string of home invasions, thefts and material damage. The pair has been released on bail by a court in Vila Joiosa.
The investigation began in August when a local man reported that his car had been broken into. The thieves stole various personal effects and bank documentation, which they later used to withdraw money from their victim’s account. They also swiped a set of keys to a storage unit.
Security footage revealed the identity of the burglars and officers quickly realised the Frenchman and Spanish woman had committed several home invasions in the area in less than a month.
The Guardia Civil began tracking the couple and discovered they were illegally squatting in a house, the same property where they stashed all of the stolen goods. Officers arrested the pair at the house on September 13.
During a search of the property, they found jewellery, personal documentation belonging to their victims, various household appliances and the tools used to break into the houses.
While a large part of the stolen goods has been returned to their rightful owners, several items have still not been claimed, leading the police to believe that there are still more victims out there.
