ARCHIVED - Free tours of natural park in Torrevieja for tourists from October 23
Four guided tours offer a great chance to explore Lagunas de la Mata in the Vega Baja, Alicante province
Torevieja Town Hall is organising a series of free ‘ecotourism’ guided tours of Lagunas de La Mata Natural Park offering a chance for locals and visitors alike to learn more about the environmental and cultural heritage of one of the most important wetlands in the Valencia region.
There will be four different routes adapted for all ages, three during the day and one in the evening, during which members of the public will learn “many interesting facts about the natural park and enjoy a fun day out”.
Comfortable clothes and hiking or sports shoes are recommended, along with a packed meal and water. For the night route, it is advisable to take along a torch and cap, and binoculars and camera for the day tours.
The first tour will take place on Saturday October 23, 10am to 2pm called ‘La Mata, vineyards of sea and salt’ and starts at the Natural Park Visitor’s Centre. The four-hour route will reveal the biodiversity of the park and the history of generations of winegrowers who have been working the land for centuries, followed by a tasting of La Mata wines.
Dates have still to be confirmed the remaining tours, but they will include an ornithological route called ‘The birds of the natural park’, a general tour entitled ‘The great secret of the lagoon’, a fun and cultural tour for families, and a nocturnal ‘In the light of the Moon’ route which promises to “sharpen your senses to see who lives in the lagoon at night”.
