ARCHIVED - Free online Spanish classes for expats in Alicante province
More than 8,000 international residents have benefited from courses offered by the Alicante Provincial Council's International Residents' Unit

Expats in Alicante province are once again being offered the chance to learn Spanish online with the launch of a new programme of free courses for 2022 organised by Alicante Provincial Council's International Residents' Unit.
The aim is to "promote integration and reinforce the learning of Spanish amongst international citizens living in the province", and due to ever increasing demand for these free courses, the number of places available has been upped to 400.
Over the last few years, more than 8,000 international residents have benefited from these programmes, enrolling in a total of 209 courses.
The head of residents' unit, Juan de Dios Navarro, explained that the initiative "has established itself as a useful tool to help new residents to improve their relations with their neighbours and reinforce their integration in our province".
Demand has increased significantly in recent years, and there are more than 100 requests on a waiting list from people who were unable to get onto a course last year.
The courses, with more than 500 hours of content, are aimed at any international residents registered in the province, regardless of their country of origin. Amongst the advantages of the online mode is the possibility of accessing the content from absolutely anywhere, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, according to the provincial institution.
Anyone wishing to join a subsidised course can register online on the provincial council's website between September 1 and 31.
