ARCHIVED - Five-year-old boy dies in Almoradi house fire
The child's grandparents suffered smoke inhalation in the tragic blaze in the Vega Baja town, Alicante province
A five-year-old boy has been killed and his grandparents, both in their 60s, injured in a devastating blaze at their home in the Alicante town of Almoradí.
The fire broke out in one of the rooms in the flat on the fourth floor of a residential block in Calle Granados at 8.50pm on Thursday March 24.
After trying to dampen the flames without success, the grandfather was able to get out of the flat, whilst the grandmother and grandson sought safety on the balcony, according to the Provincial Firefighters Consortium.

In addition to fire crews, the Emergency Information and Coordination Centre (CICU) immediately sent two Samu ambulances and a Basic Life Support unit to the scene.
Firefighters managed to rescue the grandma and little boy, both suffering from smoke inhalation, before the Samu medical team performed advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other recovery techniques on the child. Sadly there was no response and the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
The grandparents were taken to the Vega Baja Hospital in Orihuela where they were treated for smoke inhalation, and a Local Police officer was treated for similar symptoms at the scene.
The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
