First snowfall in Alicante province as temperatures plummet below zero
Thermometers have plummeted to -7ºC overnight in parts of Alicante province

The mercury has nose-dived over the last week in Alicante province, plunging the region into colder, wintry conditions that have seen temperatures drop to well below zero inland and bringing with it the first snowfall of 2023.
Early Monday morning, January 23, thermometers plummeted to between -5.8 and -7ºC in towns such as Villena, Hondón de los Frailes and Pinoso.
And similar freezing temperatures were recorded in Alcoy (-6ºC), Elda (-1.7ºC), Peña Rubia in Villena (-4.3ºC) and Sax (-2ºC).
On the coast, Benidorm and Benitatxell have dawned with sleet on the ground since Monday, making driving particularly hazardous.

But it was in Jijona (Xixona), Javea and the surroundings of Cabo de la Nao, particularly areas at relatively low altitude in the Marina Alta region, and Serra de Bèrnia where the first snowfall landed.
Como es habitual en situaciones de frío intenso, el Pantanet de Petrer (o cueva del... 🙈) presenta un espectacular aspecto, con muchos carámbanos. Así está esta mañana.

According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the province can expect colder weather to come with the mercury on a downward trajectory, precipitation in the form of snow or sleet in the likes of Benidorm, Bemissa and Javea, and frost forecast over the next couple of days.
