ARCHIVED - Fire crews tackle deliberate fire in Torrevieja and blaze near power plant in Los Montesinos
Both fires in the Vega Baja area of Alicante province broke out on Tuesday night August 16 and the early hours of the following morning

Firefighters in the Vega Baja tackled two blazes in neighbouring towns on Tuesday evening, one of which is believed to have been started deliberately.
The first blaze broke out in scrub land near a power plant in Los Montesinos. Thankfully the flames didn't reach the plant, "due to the rapid intervention of firefighters", according to the Local Police which is reminding the public to keep plots of land clear of shrubbery and debris.
Los Montesinos Police is also advising landowners to ensure they have firewalls around plot perimeters.
In a separate incident in Torrevieja, less than 10km away, firefighters were called to a waste container blaze dangerously close to two villas in Calle Ángel García Rogel on Los Balcones urbanisation.
Several units of the Local Police were sent to the scene "during the early hours of Wednesday morning" along with fire crews from Vega Sur de Torrevieja station. Police believe the fire was the work of an arsonist and an investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, more than 2,000 people have been evacuated and 1,110-plus hectares destroyed as the huge Vall d'Ebro wildfire in Alicante continues to burn, spreading into the north of Valencia province. Black plumes of smoke are reportedly visible from Mallorca.
