ARCHIVED - Elche, Novelda, Orihuela and Rojales were among the top 10 hottest places in Spain yesterday
These four municipalities in Alicante province hit highs of over 33ºC on Monday May 30
After the hottest May weekend since 2015, Monday was another scorcher in Alicante with four municipalities along the Costa Blanca making it into the top 10 list of hottest places in the country on May 30.
Elche was the 2nd hottest place in Spain, Novelda was 6th, Orihuela was 7th and Rojales came in at number 10.
According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the temperature at the hottest part of the day in Elche, 2.20pm, reached 34.3ºC, while in Novelda and Orihuela it was 33.3ºC at around 4.20-4.40pm. In Rojales it was 33ºC at 2.30pm.
The hottest place in Spain was Xativa in Valencia, where thermometers recorded a maximum of 34.6ºC. The towns of Abanilla and Cieza in Murcia also came in the top 10, as did Vélez-Málaga in Andalucía.
Temperatures are expected to remain steady at this high level all week.
