Ecological park, Cehegín

Parque Ecológico

Ecological park, CehegínThe Cehegín ecological park is a forested area which covers 110 hectares, located in a mountainous zone between the Argos and Quipar rivers, close to the archaeological site of Begastri.

It was inaugurated in November of 2009 and is located 9 kilometres from the urban centre of Cehegín.
The park is intended to offer a conservation area within the municipality, and also provide an educational facility to encourage participation in environmental projects, educate families about the natural resources available within the region, and encourage respect for the environment.

It also offers an adventure and play zone for children , as well as providing signposted walking routes with information about flora and fauna in the area for the whole family to enjoy, over distances of 1,5,8 and 21 kilometres. There are many different activities which can be undertaken by the youngsters, including archery, rock-climbing, adventure playground etc, as well as guided walks. All of these have a small charge and can be arranged according to group size. For guided walks, the minimum group size is 10 people and charges average around 5 euros. Walks of between 1.6 and 20 kilometres can be arranged with guide.

At the weekend the park is open for all to enjoy, and walkers and cyclists can enjoy the area unguided.
There are a range of different landscapes within the park area, including water sources, and a wide range of wildlife and plantlife to be observed and enjoyed.

The park is able to arrange guided walks and group activities, particularly for school groups. Call Miguel Ángel on 636 787 936 for more details. The tourist office can also be contacted, Click Tourist office Cehegín if you experience any language difficulties.

Location: Located 9km from the urban centre of Cehegín, the park is accesed via the Carretera Campillo de los Jiménez. Once past the crossroads of La Carrasquilla, follow the road to the right via a forest track ( camino to the Fuente de Juan González) and from there, its 3 km to the actual entrance. The park is signposted.

Click for map to the Carretera de Campillo, which will put you onto the right road.

The park is open to all at the weekends throughout the year from 10am to 6pm.
Groups can visit during the week by prior arrangement.
