ARCHIVED - Dutch man arrested for attempted murder after bar brawl in Alicante
The 45-year-old allegedly stabbed a fellow countryman during a violent brawl in the coastal town of Albir in the Marina Baixa, Alicante province

Police in Benidorm have arrested a Dutch man, aged 45, who allegedly stabbed a compatriot during a bar brawl in nearby Albir before fleeing the country.
According to witnesses, the two men began arguing on the terrace of two adjoining bars on the evening of March 21. Both appeared to have had quite a bit to drink, and the row turned violent with furniture being "used as weapons".
Another customer called emergency services and when the police and an ambulance arrived, they found the 50-year-old Dutch man bleeding heavily from a serious stomach wound.
His alleged attacker had fled the trashed terrace, and the Guardia Civil immediately began an "exhaustive" study of the bloodied scene, and found a knife believed to have been used to stab the victim.
The wounded man was taken "in a serious condition" to Marina Baixa Hospital in Villajoyosa where he underwent surgery.
Meanwhile, the suspect fled Spain and returned to Holland, returning a few months later. In October, police located him at a holiday flat in Cala de Finestrat, Benidorm, and he was arrested for attempted murder.
He has appeared at Benidorm Magistrates' Court and released on bail. Both men have previous convictions for violence.
