Drunk driver crashes BMW into metro entrance thinking it was a garage
After being arrested the man was found to have alcohol in his bloodstream
Local Police in Valencia have arrested a driver who crashed his car into one of the secondary entrances to the metro on the central Calle de Colón.
The man was subsequently tested for alcohol and was found to be positive. The vehicle, a high-end BMW, was finally removed after 1pm.
The incident occurred at 7.15am on Sunday October 27, when a patrol on duty for the special operation of the Half Marathon located the vehicle embedded in the secondary entrance of the metro. The officers tried to remove the vehicle with the police crane, but it was not possible.
The front of the car had become lodged on the first steps of the Metro entrance, but the incident did not affect the passage of the Half Marathon along Calle Colón, according to municipal sources. The car remained at the entrance while runners passed by it.
According to the officers, the vehicle drove several metres along the pavement before driving into the metro entrance, believing it was that of an underground car park.
When the local police arrived, the driver was on the stairs talking to several subway workers. Seeing that he seemed to be under the influence of alcohol, they requested assistance from a police patrol.
The driver was tested positive for having ingested alcohol, with a level of more than 0.66 milligrams per litre of exhaled air. He was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against road safety and was placed at the disposal of the Judicial Authority at the Central Inspection Station.
