General information: Cartagena municipality
The Cartagena municipality covers a large area from the Mar Menor, starting around the Los Nietos area all the way across through the city and out as far as La Azohía on the Mazarrón border.
There are two types of health facility: Centros de salud which service the larger population centres and are generally open every morning throughout the week and on Saturday mornings, and consultorios, which are satellite doctor’s surgeries. These are often only open for a couple of hours a day or on erratic days as one doctor will cover several consultorios.

There is a central system for booking prior appointments (968 22 82 50) or on www.murciasalud.es ( cita previa) online. However, this is all in Spanish and can be a bit confusing for non-Spanish speakers. It’s OK to turn up without an appointment and just wait your turn.
Emergencies
There are emergency A and E Departments in all of the major hospitals, the nearest being in Cartagena at the Santa Lucia or the Rosell. There is also a major A and E department at the Los Arcos Hospital in San Javier. Click Hospitals Region of Murcia
