ARCHIVED - Dead body found at landfill site in Jijona, Alicante
The decomposed corpse is believed to have been transferred among waste from Torrevieja in the Vega Baja area of the province

A man's decomposing body was discovered at a landfill site in Jijona (Xixona) on Sunday morning, April 2, prompting a police probe.
It's believed the corpse was transferred to the site at Piedra Negra among waste that had passed through a treatment plant in Dolores, and may have originated in Torrevieja.
The body, discovered at around 10.45am by a worker at the site, is that of a middle-aged man, and the Guardia Civil has launched an investigation into the identity of the deceased, the circumstances surrounding his death and how the corpse ended up at Xixona tip.
A post-mortem is being carried out by the Institute of Legal Medicine in Alicante to clarify the possible cause and time of death.
The Xixona facility is the final destination for waste from a large part of the province of Alicante, including the Vega Baja. Two years ago, the head of a 68-year-old woman who lived in Torrevieja and was the victim of a gender crime was discovered in this same landfill.
