ARCHIVED - Daily cases fall below 5,000: Valencia Covid update February 18
Twice as many recoveries as infections reported in Alicante province and the rest of the region in the last 24 hours

The Valencia region continues to move in the right direction and the week of updates ends as it began, with a notable and significant decrease in new daily infections and hospital admissions.

Active cases have fallen by a third since Christmas, and the region is now reporting figures not seen since prior to the sixth wave of the pandemic.
As a result of the downward trajectory, the 14-day cumulative incidence rate has dropped to 1,365.2, although it remains above the national average.
Coronavirus cases
The regional Ministry of Health has reported 4,563 5,037 new Covid cases in today's update, almost 500 less than the 5,037 recorded Thursday February 17. This brings the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,269,231.
By province: 405 have been recorded in Castellón (154,217 in total), 1,387 in Alicante (445,187), 2,771 in Valencia (669,820). There are seven unassigned cases.
According to the health data, there are currently 62,188 active cases, which represent 4.86% of the total positives.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 1,116 people admitted to hospital with Covid, 65 less than 24 hours earlier, 119 of them in ICU (five less): 162 in the province of Castellón, 13 in ICU; 348 in the province of Alicante, 39 in ICU; and 606 in the province of Valencia, 67 in ICU.
9,925 people have overcome the virus since the last update, which means the total number of recoveries since the start of the pandemic now stands at 1,209,544
By provinces, the recoveries are distributed as follows:147,478 in Castellón, 425,959 in Alicante and 636,047 in Valencia. There remains 60 unassigned cases.
Fatalities
18 Covid-related deaths have been reported since Thursday. All of the deaths occurred in the last seven days, except for one in January, and bring the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis in the Valencia region to 8,940: 1,030 in the province of Castellón, 3,413 in Alicante and 4,497 in Valencia.
The deceased are 11 men aged between 61 and 94, and seven women between 64 and 95-years-old.
