ARCHIVED - Covid outbreak at Torrevieja nightclub on the Costa Blanca
A second outbreak among young people in the region has also been detected in Valencia.
A Covid outbreak which originated at a nightclub in Torrevieja, in the Vega Baja comarca of Alicante province, has risen to 17 affected party goers with an average age of 17, according to the Ministry of Health.
And a second outbreak has been detected in Valencia with 20 new cases amongst young people with an average age of 19.
Valencia's regional health department summoned 98 people who attended a party at the Torrevieja nightclub on Saturday, June 5, to take part in mass screening on Monday, June 14, with 17 testing positive.
Meanwhile, the health department is also looking into a second cluster of cases reported in Valencia city.
In the latest regional health update, the overall picture appeared to be slightly more positive across the provinces of Alicante, Valencia and Castellon, where the number of new Covid cases reported had fallen slightly, as had the number of hospitalised patients.
But the outbreaks follow a relaxation of measures in the Valencia region on June 8, which saw an end to nightly curfews, and an extension to pub and disco opening hours which can now stay open until 2am with a capacity of 100 per cent on terraces and 50 per cent inside.
