ARCHIVED - Covid incidence rate in Murcia doubles in just one week: Covid update November 19
Daily cases jump up in the Region of Murcia, but hospitalisations thankfully remain steady
At the beginning of the week, on Monday November 15, the 14-day cumulative incidence rate in the Region of Murcia was 72.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, but since then the rate has almost doubled.
New infections and active cases
In the past 24 hours there were 229 new cases in the Region, making the total number of active cases 1,439, compared to the 793 this time last week (November 12). The number of new cases has been in the triple digits since Monday.
Of these 229 new cases, 46 were in the municipality of Murcia, 40 in Cartagena, 24 in Torre Pacheco, 13 in Mazarrón, 12 in Yecla, 11 in Cieza, ten in Molina de Segura, nine in Archena, eight in Jumilla, seven in Alcantarilla, five in Alhama de Murcia, five in Lorca, four in Abarán, four in Los Alcázares and the rest are distributed in the remaining municipalities.
Hospitalisations
While 1,395 people with coronavirus are self-isolating at home, the remainder of the active cases (44) are currently in the Region’s hospitals, of whom seven patients are in intensive care.
Fatalities
After a 5-day streak of no Covid-related deaths, three people have died this week; one in the last day, leaving the total death toll at 1,763.
Recoveries
In total, 141,035 people have survived Covid since the start of the pandemic, and 66 of these recoveries were reported in the last 24 hours.
Vaccinations
As the debate about whether to administer third booster doses to the general population, the percentage of the population who have been double jabbed in the Region of Murcia edges closer to 90%, the figure currently stands at 80.52%, while 91.63% have had at least one dose of a Covid vaccine.
Cumulative incidence rate
The 14-day cumulative incidence rate has risen by 124.85% since last Friday and by almost 100% since Monday and the figure now stands at 110.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Meanwhile, the 7-day rate is also rapidly increasing and now stands at 76 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
In light of the increased Covid stats this week, the regional president has stated that if the incidence rate continues this alarming trajectory, he will be forced to “make decisions”, although he failed to mention what action would be taken.
