ARCHIVED - Covid incidence drops 30 per cent: Murcia coronavirus update May 24
Hospital and ICU pressure has increased over the weekend in the Region of Murcia
The regional health authorities in Murcia have reported very mixed Covid data over the weekend: the number of people hospitalised with coronavirus has increased since Friday, but daily infections have dropped slightly.
In addition, the cumulative incidence rate has dipped once more and is edging ever closer to the Spanish national average of 848 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Coronavirus infections
The Region of Murcia registered a total of 2,642 new cases of coronavirus in the last four days, 456 on Monday May 23 alone, which brings the number of infections since the beginning of the health crisis to 426,906.
Cumulative incidence rate
The regional health authorities have confirmed that the 14-day incidence rate in adults over the age of 60 has fallen by 30% in the last week, now standing at 1,051.35 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The 7-day figure is significantly less than 50%, which is a good indication that the number of infections will continue to decrease in the coming days.
The two-week average remains above 2,000 cases per 100,000 in Yecla, while the municipalities of Águilas (833.5), Mazarrón (664) and San Pedro del Pinatar (817) are all now well below the average in Spain.
Hospitalisations and fatalities
There are currently 303 people hospitalised in Murcia for Covid, 12 more than on Friday, while 20 patients are being treated for more serious symptoms in the Region’s ICUs (an increase of five).
Since the last update, a further five Covid-related fatalities have been reported, which brings the overall death toll since the start of the pandemic to 2,294.
Coronavirus testing
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 2,943,276 PCR and antigen tests have been carried out in the Region of Murcia.
Vaccination data
Since the last update, 91.91% of the entire population of the Murcia Region has had a least one dose. In addition, 84.61% of people are now double jabbed.
