ARCHIVED - Costa Blanca man fined after complaining about bad service from prostitute
Police in Valencia slapped the disgruntled client with an 800 euro fine

Illegal sexual services ended up costing a disgruntled client a whole lot more than he bargained for after he complained to police in the Valenican town of Albal about a prostitute's bad service.
The complainant brazenly walked into the Local Police station, alleged a sex worker he met on the street had not honoured their agreement satisfactorily, and said he wanted to file a complaint.
Albal recently passed a municipal ordinance that heavily sanctions the "consumption of sexual services on public roads", and the unhappy customer became the first person to be fined 800 euros under the new regulations.
The town is considered something of a 'national pioneer' for its stance on prostitution and pimps following a clampdown after the murder of 19-year-old sex worker Florina Gogos last year, and a young woman in 2004.
In response, the Town Hall has modified the municipal ordinance of coexistence, increasing fines for brothel owners and pimps.
Prostitution has been banned, as has the placing of brothel cards in public places, the latter of which carries fines of up to 350 euros.
Albal has also joined a network of municipalities in the Valencia region actively fighting against the trafficking of women and girls through tougher penalties, awareness campaigns and "greater coordination of local police to increase control over pimps".
To improve policing, 27 local officers from towns across the region took part in a training course on prostitution and sexual exploitation organised by the Valencian Institute of Public Safety and Emergencies (Ivaspe) a few months ago.
