Corvera airport gets set for a busy summer with flights to 20 destinations
The Region of Murcia International Airport launches its high season this Sunday with new routes and stronger passenger growth
The summer season is already getting under way at the Region of Murcia International Airport, better known as Corvera, and this Sunday, the start of Semana Santa, marked the start of a much busier phase for the terminal.By October, passengers will have access to 20 routes linking Murcia with destinations in up to seven countries, although not every airline is opening all its services at once.
For British travellers, the range is especially strong. Ryanair has already launched routes to London Stansted, London Luton, Manchester, Birmingham, East Midlands, Bournemouth and Glasgow, while EasyJet is serving London Gatwick, London Luton, Manchester and Bristol. Together, those services keep the UK at the heart of Corvera’s summer schedule, with flights also available to Dublin in Ireland.
Alongside the UK network, Corvera will also link Murcia with Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Nador in Morocco and Barcelona. Volotea is part of the summer picture too, although for now it only offers Barcelona.
Its wider network will not begin until the last week of June, when flights to Asturias, Bilbao and Marseille are due to start, along with two new routes for this year, Lille in France and Venice in Italy. Tui Fly, meanwhile, is delaying its Bruges-Ostend route in Belgium until the end of April, after cutting back its confidence in AIRM and cancelling Antwerp.
The airport’s mood at the start of the year has already been upbeat. Despite the quieter winter months, passenger numbers rose by 25.7% in the first two months of 2026, reaching 76,388, according to Aena. International travel led the way, climbing by 24.3% to 31,230 passengers, while the domestic market also grew strongly, up 28.7% to 6,937. Flight numbers followed the same pattern, rising by 25% to a total of 855.
Looking ahead, the aim for Corvera is to pass the one million passenger mark, something Aena believes could happen this year. To support that growth, a new electricity supply contract worth €1.8 million has also been signed with Iberdrola. For now, the focus is firmly on the summer ahead, with more routes, more destinations and a terminal preparing for a much livelier season.
