ARCHIVED - Cheap train tickets: Ouigo offers more cut-price rail fares to Alicante and Albacete
The rail company is about to launch a new high-speed route with the capital of Spain
After much speculation, the long-awaited day has arrived and low-cost, high-speed rail operator Ouigo will officially announce the start date of its new rapid train link between Madrid, Alicante and Albacete on March 28.
What’s more, to celebrate the new corridor, the company is offering train tickets for as little as 9 euros each way for adults beginning on the very same day.
The general director of Ouigo, Hélène Valenzuela, and the company's Commercial and Marketing director, Federico Pareja, will confirm the start date of operations during an event at Alicante train station.
On top of the 9-euro discount rate, children between four and 13 years can travel for just five euros, while kids up to three years old will get a seat absolutely free.
All of these cut-price tickets can be purchased through the Ouigo website.
From the launch date, the rail company, which now rivals giants Renfe and Iyro in Spain, will operate two daily round-trips connecting the Madrid-Chamartín-Clara Campoamor, Albacete-Los Llanos and Alicante-Terminal stations in less than two and a half hours.
Ouigo has highlighted that it operates with the "highest capacity trains on the market", and will soon sell more than 28,000 seats per week between these cities.
Since last October, Ouigo has run six daily routes between the Madrid-Chamartín-Clara Campoamor and València-Joaquín Sorolla stations and looks set to dominate the market in the Valencian Community, which can only reduce fares for passengers by creating more competition in the market.
The high-speed company has highlighted that it will help "boost the economies" in Alicante, Albacete and Madrid, "favouring the increase in the flow of travellers and tourists between the three locations, and will contribute to the advancement of decarbonization in the country".
