ARCHIVED - Cases rebound over the weekend: Covid update Valencia November 8
849 new infections and two deaths across the region, including Alicante province
The Valencia region's Ministry of Health has confirmed a Covid rebound over the weekend with a significant hike from 672 cases seven days ago, following the All Saints holiday weekend, to 849 new infections on Monday November 8.
That represents a leap of 26.33% over a weekend which also saw two Covid-related deaths, and a rise in hospital admissions, with 12 additional coronavirus patients currently being treated on wards.
The upturn in new positives has seen the 14-day cumulative incidence rate climb to 64.5 per 100,000 inhabitants, almost double that of just four weeks ago following the lifting of the majority of anti-Covid restrictions.
A breakdown of today's Covid data shows:
New cases
A further 849 new cases have been reported since Friday November 5, bringing the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 517,554. By province: 203 in Castellón (55,043 in total); 253 in Alicante (189,733) and 393 in Valencia (272,777).
Recoveries
524 people have recovered from Covid since the last update, meaning that to date, 517,869 people in the Valencian region have overcome the virus. By province: 54,871 in Castellón; 189,441 in Alicante; and 273,501 in Valencia. There are 56 unassigned recoveries.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 218 people admitted to hospitals in the three provinces, up from 206 last Friday, 42 of whom are being treated in ICUs (no change): 60 in the province of Castellón, four in the ICU; 83 in the province of Alicante, 25 in the ICU; and 75 in the province of Valencia, 13 of them in the ICU.
Fatalities
There have been two reported deaths which occurred in the last seven days. The Ministry of Health has confirmed the victims were aged 89 and 90-years-old. The fatalities means the total now stands at 7,859 since the start of the pandemic: 857 of these deaths have been recorded in Castellón; 3,019 in Alicante; and 3,983 in the province of Valencia.
Vaccinations
There's been no update on vaccinations, but as of Friday, a total of 4,078,288 people had received one dose of vaccine, and 4,038,648 people were fully immunised with two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca, or the single-dose Janssen.
Active cases
According to the latest data, there are currently 3,271 active cases in the community (up from 2,948 three days ago), which represents 0.62% of the total positives.
Outbreaks
There have been no outbreaks with 10 or more associated cases.
