ARCHIVED - Cartagena to allow beach weddings along the Mar Menor coast
Weddings could soon be a common sight on 18 beaches in La Manga, Los Urrutias and Cabo de Palos

Everyone loves the idea of a romantic beach wedding, and these magical events could soon become a reality thanks to a new municipal Beach Ordinance which has been put forward by Cartagena’s council to declare beach weddings “of Local Touristic Interest” in order to allow the celebrations on public beaches.
The Tourism department in the municipality has worked with wedding planners and other businesses specialised in weddings to determine which beaches would be ideal for marriage celebrations.
In total, 18 beaches have been put forward to the ‘Demarcation of Coasts’ organisation, which is in charge of authorising each event. Eight of the beaches are in La Manga, two are in Cabo de Palos, two are in La Azohía and two are in Los Urrutias, while Villa Caravanning, Los Belones, Cartagena city and Mar de Cristal have one potential wedding venue each.
A recent study about the economic impact of these kind of events in Cabo de Palos and La Manga, with pre-pandemic data, indicated that beach weddings could have an economic benefit of around five million euros as well as generating up to 2,700 jobs.
