ARCHIVED - Cartagena opens two more dog-friendly beaches
Two beaches in Los Nietos and La Manga will soon allow owners to bathe and swim with their dogs
There is more good news for animal lovers in the pet-friendly Region of Murcia as the beaches of La Lengua de la Vaca in Los Nietos and Los Alemanes in La Manga will soon join La Calera in Isla Plana as the area’s newest dog-friendly beaches, where owners can frolic freely with their canines on the sandy shores. Dogs will soon be allowed to sunbathe and swim with their humans, the mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, confirmed on Friday July 29.
The decision follows repeated requests from residents, neighbourhood associations and animal welfare groups that the local authorities create more spaces where people can safely enjoy the great outdoors with their pets.
While the permission to allow dogs on Playas La Lengua and Los Alemanes has been officially granted, owners won’t be allowed to bring their pooches to the beach for another few days, until after the regulation is published in the Region’s Official Gazette. Once the beaches are open to canines and their companions, the fact will be clearly signposted.
As with all other public areas, dogs must be kept under control at all times and the owners are responsible for picking up after their pets.
