Cartagena City Council to modernise bus station
The new station will have spaces for students and entrepreneurs
Cartagena City Council has announced that it is to completely remodel its existing bus station. The aim is to give a sorely needed improvement to accessibility and to optimise the quality of the services.
The work will allow the existing space to be reorganised to concentrate services for travellers on the ground floor, facilitating direct access to the platforms, instead of forcing people to go up and then down again to travel between the street level and where the buses stop.
The services that will be relocated on the bus station’s ground floor are the ticket office, toilets and canteen. The aim, according to Cartagena Council is to “simplify transit and improve intermodality with the nearby FEVE station and urban bus routes at Puerta de San José”.
Having freed up the first floor, it will have a new use housing study and entrepreneurship spaces, such as study rooms and coworking areas. These will be intended primarily for university students from the nearby Muralla campus, in order to offer them a place to work on projects.
