Cartagena announces date for big Christmas light switch-on
More than 750 glittering festive displays will illuminate Cartagena this holiday season
Cartagena is gearing up for a dazzling holiday season, with the city announcing the official date for its highly anticipated Christmas light switch-on.
This year, for the first time, the festive lights will illuminate both the city centre and its surrounding neighbourhoods and districts simultaneously, creating a unified celebration of holiday cheer.
The grand switch-on is due to take place on Thursday December 5 at 6.30pm. Throughout the municipality, the streets will come alive with the warm glow of thousands of high-energy efficiency LED lights.
Overall, more than 750 festive displays will be installed across Cartagena, with decorations ranging from huge vertical ornaments and bejewelled ‘Merry Christmas’ signs, to photocall installations perfect for capturing those memorable festive moments.
At the heart of the celebration, the city centre will once again be transformed into an enchanting forest, a signature feature of Cartagena’s Christmas decorations. This year, more than 100 sparkling branches will adorn the main streets, adding to the magical atmosphere.
One of the most iconic locations, Calle Mayor, will be crowned by nine illuminated wreaths in honour of the arrival of the Three Wise Men from the East.
These decorations will guide visitors to the Town Hall Square, where a towering 20-metre sparkling Christmas tree will stand proudly next to the majestic Town Hall Palace, serving as the centrepiece of Cartagena’s festive display.
