ARCHIVED - Car overheats in high temperatures and bursts into flames in Albatera
Prompt action by firefighters ensured nobody was hurt as flames engulfed the vehicle in the Vega Baja, Alicante province.
Soaring temperatures of over 30 degrees across Alicante province on Sunday are believed to have caused a car to overheat and burst into flames in Albatera.
Just before 6pm, Albatera Local Police received a call out to a blaze on the edge of a residential area in the town and immediately notified firefighters who were quickly on the scene and managed to "prevent the situation from escalating without further damage or injuries" as "curious" onlookers apparently gathered at the scene while officers diverted traffic.
The Local Police have warned motorists of the increased risk of cars overheating during the summer months, which, as the image shows, can in the worst case scenario lead to engine combustion.
To reduce the risk of this occurring, the police have offered the following advice:
*Regularly check the coolant levels;
*Control and keep and eye on the engine temperature so that it does not reach the red zone of the indicator;
*Check and clean the radiator and vents;
*Avoid "aggressive" driving where the engine is forced to work at high revs.
