Can you get fined for giving another driver the finger in Spain?
The traffic authorities in Spain take all kinds of driving distractions very seriously

Let’s face it, we’ve all been there. Stuck in traffic, someone cuts us off and our middle finger suddenly has a mind of its own. But can you get fined for giving another driver the finger in Spain? The answer might surprise you.
The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has a lengthy list of reasons why you can get fined, from littering to driving shirtless (yes, that's really a thing!). But what about a little gesture of frustration, like flipping the bird?
According to the DGT, although undoubtedly highly offensive to other motorists, it's not considered an offense, so you won't get fined for giving the finger.
However, if you use your horn to express your displeasure, you might be in for a surprise. The DGT considers this a distraction, and you could be looking at an 80 euro fine. And if you don't stop honking, that fine can jump to 200 euros.
On the other hand, if you're arguing with your passenger, trying to get the kids to behave or even sneaking in a quick kiss, you could be fined between 100 and 600 euros. And if the officers think you're driving recklessly, you could lose 6 points on your license and face a fine of up to 500 euros.
So, the next time you're tempted to give someone the finger, remember: While the traffic police probably won’t penalise you, you could be unwittingly distracting other motorists, which may lead to an accident.
Keep your cool, keep your hands on the wheel and save the romance - or argument - for when you're parked safely at home.
