Camposol tarmacking project delayed again but only for limited period
Due to various interruptions engineering companies ask for extentions to 3 municipal road works contracts, including the Camposol, Avenida de los Covachos project
Engineering companies drafting 3 of the 4 major municipal road work projects have asked for extentions to complete the draft projects and specifications. After delays to the 4 projects caused by legal challenges including 1 by opposition political parties and 2 appeals by the Association of Civil Engineering Consulting Companies in the Region of Murcia (A.E.C.I.C.) the latter of which prompted the judge to dismiss the appeal and in his summing up found that the Association’s challenge was made in “bad faith and recklessness” and imposed the punishment of a fine of one thousand euros.
The applications for extentions to the projects, part of the Mazarrón Urbano initiative, were heard by Mazarrón Council's governing board during the month of March and the following extentions were approved;
Drafting company Cauce Proyectos y Obras, SA, who are drafting Lot 1 which is for the planning of 5 road projects in the Puerto de Mazarrón namely calles Mar Báltico, Mar Cantábrico, Mar de Marmara, Mar de Adriatic and Mar de Philippine have been granted an extention of three months in addition to the original contract of 5 months (until June 13, 2024).
Company Xúquer-Arquing S.L. who are drafting Lot 2 which is for the planning of 2 road projects in the Puerto de Mazarrón, calles Río Mundo y Río Taibilla en Bahía, have been granted an extention of 2.5 months in addition to the original 5 months (until June 13, 2024).
EM4 Servicios de Ingeniería, S.L.P. who are drafting the project for Lot 4 which is for the planning of the dual carriageway Avenida de los Covachos in Camposol of the contract for the “Drafting of road adaptation projects in the T.M. from Mazarrón” granting a period of 1 month in addition to the original 4 months (until April 13, 2024).
The reasons given in the application by EM4 were:
- There have been, as stated in the background to this report, various interruptions that have made it impossible for the work to proceed properly.
- The amenity supply companies (Telefónica, Iberdrola, Gas Natural and others) have not issued final reports on the status and coordinated work required in the different supplies in the area of works, which has made it impossible to correct development of the project.
The object of the contract being the adaptation of a road with a very considerable length (more than 3,268 m), the main artery of the urbanisation where it is located, it is considered advisable to carry out a deep and concise study of said layouts, to achieve the optimisation of resources when executing the project.
The planned project for Camposol is the asphalting of the dual carriageway and repairs to the pavement extending along Avenida de los Covachos from a point adjacent to the bridge between sectors C & D to the end of the dual carriageway at the junction with Calle Babinas includes more than 3,268 linear meters of road and an approximate surface area including road and pavements of about 99,924.80 square metres.
When the project drafting has been completed by EM4 Servicios de Ingeniería it will be reviewed by the Town Hall’s planning technicians and subsequently will be used to form the contract which will be put out to tender for the execution of the works with a budgeted costing of over 800,000 euros.
