ARCHIVED - British woman, 67, mauled to death by rescue dog in Valencia
The victim found the Pitbull abandoned on the street in Spain

A 67-year-old Briton suffered horrific injuries last Friday (February 24) when she was attacked by a stray Pitbull at her home in the Valencian municipality of Macastre. She was rushed to hospital for treatment but later died from her injuries.
According to investigating officers of the Guardia Civil, the victim had found the dog abandoned in the countryside near her home a few days earlier. He had no ID tag and was not microchipped.
Emergency services arrived at the woman’s home at around 2pm but were initially prevented from entering, as the dog, included on Spain’s list of dangerous breeds, was still inside. Officers eventually had to shoot the animal to attend to the victim.
She was transferred to the La Fe Hospital in Valencia suffering from “catastrophic arm injuries and a head injury.” Despite the best efforts of the medical team, the British woman died when she “went into shock” following a haemorrhage as a result of the dog’s bites.
The Guardia Civil are currently trying to track down the owner of the abandoned dog.
