ARCHIVED - British tourist, 65, saved after being found face-down in Mallorca sea
The 65-year-old Briton was transferred to hospital where her current condition is unknown
A 65-year-old woman has narrowly escaped drowning after she was pulled from the sea at Tamarells Beach in the popular Mallorca hotspot of Puerto de Pollensa. The British woman was floating face-down in the water when she was rescued on Thursday afternoon, June 9.
Tragedy has been striking the Spanish Islands in recent months as holidaymakers return: over the weekend, a 33-year-old tourist was rushed to hospital with suspected spinal injuries after hitting the rocks during a cliff dive in Ibiza, and last month, a former footballer plunged to his death from a 25-metre height in Mallorca.
According to local police in Mallorca, emergency responders managed to revive the Briton after performing CPR for almost an hour, and she was transferred to the intensive care unit at Hospital Quironsalud Palmplanas.
Her current condition is currently unknown.
A spokesperson for the Guardia Civil confirmed the near-death incident: “The alarm was raised just after 5pm.
“Lifeguards made the initial attempts to revive her after she was pulled out of the water before emergency responders took over and performed advanced CPR on her when they reached the scene.
“She was revived after about 50 minutes and rushed to hospital.”
Officials haven’t released details of how the woman ran into difficulties in the water.
