ARCHIVED - British pilot dies in Seville plane crash
The pilot of the light aircraft that crashed in a small Andalucía town today has a British pilot’s licence
A light aircraft spiralled to earth in Seville, Andalucía today, Wednesday February 16, killing the pilot and sole occupant, who was reported to be in possession of a British flying licence.
The fatal accident took place in the countryside in the municipality of Utrera at 12.15pm on a plot of land near the village of Pinzón, about 300 metres from the SE-9020 road, which runs from Pinzón to the town centre of Los Palacios y Villafranca.
The Spanish emergency services received several calls alerting them of the accident, and the fire brigade, ambulances and several police cruisers were sent to the scene.
All indications are that it was a training flight by the pilot who died. The flight was scheduled and had all the legal authorisations from Air Navigation, and had departed from Jerez airport not long before where it belongs to a local flight school.
The deceased pilot, who is currently believed to be of British nationality, was accumulating flight hours in order to upgrade his flight certification.
Police are currently investigating what could have caused the accident.
