British motorcyclist, 62, dies in Spain crash while touring with daughter
UK entrepreneur Gerard Taustin was on a motorbike trip through Navarra when he was involved in an accident
A 62-year-old British motorcyclist has died following a head-on collision with a van in the Navarra municipality of Iguzkitza in the north of Spain. The accident occurred on Thursday afternoon, May 15, on the NA-1110 road, which runs parallel to the A-12 motorway between Galar and Viana.
The victim has been named by Onda Vasca as Gerard Taustin, a London-based entrepreneur who was travelling with his daughter. She was riding another motorbike behind him and witnessed the crash. The pair had been on a route through northern Spain and were heading to Logroño, where they planned to spend the night.
The accident took place at kilometre point 42.4 of the road, between the villages of Azketa and Iratxe, when the bike smashed headlong into a white van.
Navarra’s emergency coordination centre was alerted shortly before 2pm and dispatched a full response including firefighters from Estella-Lizarra, local medical teams, basic and advanced life support ambulances, a medical helicopter and Policía Foral traffic units.
Despite their efforts, Mr Taustin could not be saved. His body was transferred to the Navarra Institute of Legal Medicine for autopsy. A police accident investigation unit is examining the circumstances of the crash.
Mr Taustin was a well-known figure in the financial world. He founded Bullion Vault, a popular platform for buying and selling gold and precious metals, which now serves more than 100,000 users. Since 2015, he had also been involved in the premium drinks sector through Whiskyinvest.com, a business focused on investing in rare and collectable whiskies.
