British mother arrested in Marbella after baby tests positive for cocaine
The eight-month-old boy was taken into emergency care following medical checks on a Costa del Sol beach

A 25-year-old British woman has been arrested on the Costa del Sol after her eight-month-old son tested positive for cocaine.
Police officers discovered the woman, her Spanish partner and their baby while responding to reports of a bonfire on Cabopino Beach near Marbella. The family were found camping in the sand dunes in what officers described as unsuitable living conditions.
After speaking to the couple and seeing the state of the temporary camp, police became concerned for the welfare of the infant and arranged for him to be taken to a nearby health centre for a medical examination. Officers feared the child may not have been receiving proper care as he appeared undernourished.
Doctors at the Las Albarizas Health Centre decided to transfer the baby to the Costa del Sol Hospital for more detailed checks. Tests carried out there revealed that the boy was significantly underweight for his age, and a urine sample later showed traces of cocaine in his system.
The child was admitted to the paediatric unit so that further assessments could be carried out. Both parents were taken into custody following the hospital findings.
The mother has been identified as a British national, while her partner is a 43-year-old Spanish man.
The couple were held overnight at Marbella Police Station and are expected to appear before a judge on Wednesday afternoon, February 11.
Local reports claim the woman had missed several medical appointments arranged for her son in recent months. When officers located the family on the beach, they also found an uninsured vehicle parked nearby with an expired ITV certificate.
As is normal practice in Spain when cases involve minors, the court hearing will be held behind closed doors. It’s understood the judge is likely to release the pair on bail while the investigation continues.
In the meantime, the baby has been placed in temporary emergency care as social services assess his long-term future. The authorities have not yet issued any formal public statement on the case.
