Liam Hannigan, 34, had been out of contact with his family and friends since February 7 with his phone switched off, but his family reported that he has been found this Wednesday February 12.
For the five days while he was missing, his disappearance raised serious concerns as those close to him said he would never voluntarily cut off contact for such a long period.
Liam had initially travelled to Tenerife with his partner on December 29 but later returned to the island alone to visit friends he had met during his holiday. A missing persons appeal was launched after his passport and one of his bank cards were discovered at a family friend’s house in the Los Cristianos resort.
Sister Ellie, who had been leading efforts to locate her brother, posted on Facebook, “My Mum and Dad have successfully found Liam while searching for him in Tenerife this evening. He is now on his way back to safety with them, where he will receive the necessary care he needs.”
“Although Liam has been found, he still requires medical help before we can bring him back to Manchester. We are so grateful to everyone who has helped us during this incredibly difficult time.”
She added, “To address the rumours circulating on social media, we want to make it clear Liam is not out drinking or involved in any illegal activities. This isn’t about him going on a ‘bender’ or him wandering off drunk. He is unwell, and what he needs right now is medical attention and the care that will help him get back to health.”
Last summer, British teenager Jay Slater went missing in Tenerife, and his body was found a month later in one of the island’s many secluded, rocky areas.
