British expat tortured in Malaga home robbery
The 60-year-old was hospitalised after masked men stole more than 10,000 euros from his Costa del Sol villa

An unnamed British man, aged 60, was left “covered in blood” after three masked men broke into his home in Alhaurin el Grande in Malaga and tortured him until he revealed where he had stashed his cash. The victim, who is planning on moving back to the UK, had just received more than 10,000 euros in cash as a deposit on his house sale and investigating officers believe his assailants were privy to this information.
Police also assume the three men, who spoke Spanish throughout the attack, are local since they appeared to know the area and its escape routes well. The quite town of Alhaurin el Grande is located just 40 minutes from the holiday hub of Marbella.
According to police reports, the Brit was home alone and eating dinner when the thieves, all wearing balaclavas, broke in. They used cable ties to secure their victim before beating him and zapping him with a stun gun until he told them where the cash was hidden.
The criminals made off with the money and the Briton eventually managed to free himself. He made his way to a neighbour’s house and was taken to hospital.
Guardia Civil have opened an investigation into the attack and believe it may be linked to similar break-ins in the area. Recently, the house of a friend of this latest victim, also a UK expat, was robbed while he was out for the night in Alhaurin el Grande.
In nearby La Viñuela, an 80-year-old British man was lucky to escape with his life earlier this month when his drunk neighbour, another Brit in his 70s, repeatedly ran over him with his car. The victim had been trying to prevent the suspect from driving while intoxicated.
The elderly former councillor is now facing an attempted murder charge as well as a string of other charges related to injuries sustained by three other people during the incident.
