British community in Torrevieja commemorates Remembrance Day with special mass
Remembrance Day, or Armistice Day, will be celebrated in the Alicante city on November 11

The large British expat community residing in Torrevieja has been invited to join together to commemorate Armistice Day in a solemn mass at the Parroquia Arciprestal de la Inmaculada Concepción, organised by the Royal British Legion in collaboration with the Torrevieja City Council.
The holy celebration will take place at 11am on Saturday November 11 and will be attended by mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, and the councillor for International Residents, Gitte Lund.
Armistice Day, also commonly known as Remembrance Day and Poppy Day due to the tradition of wearing the red flower, is a memorial day held in honour of the end of the First World War in 1919. Hostilities formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month" of 1918, when the armistice treaty was signed.
Celebrated across every town and city in Great Britain, this year’s memorial in Torrevieja will include Royal British Legion veterans as well as those who served in the Navy and Air Force of the UK. Officers of the Local Police and Protection of Torrevieja will also participate.
The commemorative mass for this important anniversary will be officiated by the pastor of the Anglican Church in Torrevieja, Father Richard Seabrook, followed by a floral offering in the Plaza de la Constitución in memory of those who fell in battle.
