ARCHIVED - Benidorm launches free park and ride service
Motorists who park in two of the town’s main car parks in the Marina Baixa, Alicante, will be able to travel by bus for free
Drivers who park in one of 1,300 spaces in Benidorm’s Avenida Beniardá and at the bus station will be able to register their number plate in the parking meter and get free bus travel to the town centre, Rincón de Loix or La Cala area.
The initiative has been launched as part of European Mobility Week (September 16 to 22) and will be operational from Wednesday September 22 “to promote sustainable mobility”.
“The free connection between these two car parks and public transport will also benefit people who would normally drive into these areas for work purposes during the week as well as shoppers at the weekends,” explained the local authority.
Users of Beniardá Avenue-Tram Station will be able to connect with the town centre and Poniente area through Line 1, whilst motorists who park in the bus station car park will be able to travel to the centre, Rincón de Loixn and La Cala via lines 3 and 11, with buses every 20 minutes. The schedules can be found at alicante.avanzagrupo.com/es.
The council has also marked Mobility Week with the unveiling of a newly pedestrianised area in Calle Italia and the opening of electric vehicle charging points.
It was also announced last week that free parking for shoppers who spend 20 euros or more in shops and other establishments in Benidorm has been extended until after Christmas.
