Benidorm arms 'English zone' with drones and extra police for the Euros
England will take on Spain this Sunday night in the final of the Euros 2024

Benidorm is gearing up for the final of the Euros 2024 this Sunday night, July 14, when England will face off against Spain in what is sure to be an explosive match. But the Costa Blanca tourist capital is keen to keep all of the action on the pitch, and is already calling in security reinforcements, particularly in the famous ‘English zone’.
This area has a huge number of British-themed pubs and restaurants and is expected to be packed to the rafters this weekend with England fans cheering on their team. Meanwhile, the city centre is hosting a massive party for around 4,000 people in L'Aigüera Park, where a giant screen will show the match.
To prevent any trouble in these “hot spots”, the Benidorm City Council, Local Police and National Police called a meeting on Thursday to come up with a plan to keep the streets safe. They’ve decided to deploy ten extra patrols from the Local Police, who will be backed up with additional officers from the National squad.
In addition, two drones will scour the streets from above, looking out for any hassle.
“The main purpose of the operation is to prevent any antisocial behaviour that may occur in public spaces, thus ensuring that the fans of both teams can enjoy the match and that no incidents or setbacks occur in the city,” explained Councillor for Security, Jesús Carrobles.
The operation will begin three hours before the match and at around 9pm, traffic will be cut off on some roads in the Rincón de Loix area, where the English fans tend to gather, including Calle Gerona between Europa and Derramador avenues.
Likewise, parking here will be restricted from Saturday night onwards and vehicles parked on these roads will be removed well ahead of the game.
If Spain wins the Euros, the Local Police plan to block off Avenida de l'Aigüera and Plaza de la Hispanidad to traffic, as this is where the supporters will celebrate.
Finally, to further reduce any risks, all bars, restaurants and cafes have been told not to serve drinks in glass cups or bottles from 6pm on Sunday.
