ARCHIVED - Belgian woman dead and 5 injured after multiple cars crash into fallen railing on the AP-7 Alicante
The fencing fell from an elevated section of the CV-905 near Algorfa after a separate car careered into it and fled

One person has died and five others have been injured in a series of crashes within seconds of one another at kilometer 746 of the AP-7 near Algorfa, Alicante, prompting a police hunt for a smash-and-run driver.
Carnage followed an accident on an elevated section of the CV-905 when a car collided with the railing, sending it tumbling onto the AP-7 below at around 2.45am on Sunday February 26. Instead of reporting the incident and waiting for emergency services, the motorist drove off.

The Guardia Civil's Traffic Subsector and Alicante and the Traffic Management Centre, confirmed that three cars crashed head-on into the fallen fencing, two in the Cartagena direction and another in the direction of Alicante.
A 40-year-old Belgian woman in the front passenger seat of the third car tragically died at the scene, while the driver and a teenager in the back of the car both sustained "slight" injuries.
Three people in the other two cars also suffered minor injuries.
According to sources from the Ministry of Health, the injured are four men, aged 30, 34, 39 and 43, and a 16-year-old teenager. Four of the victims were taken to Torrevieja Hospital and another was treated on the spot.
Guardia sources confirmed in a statement that the initial car that was circulating on the upper road fled the scene after colliding with the fence and officers "are now working to locate the vehicle and identify the driver". It's not clear what caused the initial crash that ended in tragedy.
