ARCHIVED - Bather fined €300 for flouting a red flag in Guardamar
The man was warned not to swim in the sea at Guardamar beach in the Vega Baja del Segura comarca of Alicante.
The expat from the Czech Republic has become the first swimmer of the season to flout a red flag and swim while the warning red flag was flying in Guardamar del Segura on Wednesday morning, May 19.
The bather apparently ignored warnings from Red Cross (Cruz Roja) lifeguards that the red flag forbids swimming in the sea for safety reasons, and was denounced by the Local Police.
He apparently paid the fine immediately.
Red flags are the most serious of all beach warning flags and are flown to warn of the dangers to swimmers and to lifeguards who risk their lives if they are forced to make a rescue.
